A Donkey Protects the Sheep!

“Issachar is a strong ass, couching down between the sheepfolds (burdens). And he saw the rest was good, and the land that it was pleasant; and bowed the shoulder to bear, and became a servant unto tribute.” Genesis 49:12-13

Issachar's Land Grant.
Issachar’s Land Grant.

There are many things to dissect from this passage. The land grant for Issachar was in the region of the the plains of Jezreel, bordering the Jordan river and near the sea of Galilee to the northeast. This is a very temperate land, and very fertile for farming and raising livestock (except for all the surrounding enemies of Israel who invaded them incessantly.) Issacharians are connected with the land, and seem to have a desire to farm.  Speculation exists that Issachar was involved in the production of produce for the entire nation of Israel. Even though Issachar is a humble leader and is very scholarly and ‘nerdy’, he is also a farmer. He saw that the land was pleasant, perhaps speaking of Issachar’s land grant?

Issachar is a bondservant to the other tribes in many ways. He is a humble leader and even mediator between them, a leader that is not in it for “show”, but for results, even if in the background. He knows what Israel ought to do, as he has understanding of the times, seasons and signs in the heavens.  Issachar won’t rest until he has fully protected the flocks and binds them together. Issachar has a burden for the House of Israel and the House of Judah coming together in the last days.

To quote Mona Hyde Couch, who gave permission to use her Issachar standard (banner):

“Issachar is one of the four main Tribes (at present and in the future) that will play a big part in gathering and taking them home (The Return),
